"For close to two years, I would go to the Dallas Zoo to draw the animals from life. In addition to the drawings (most of which were gesture drawings since the animals don't tend to stay still) I would take pictures to have for reference for later paintings. The elephants in particular were some of my favorite subjects even though they never stop moving. The Iris flowers bloom every spring in my garden, and I love how the delicate flowers echo the gentle soul of the elephant."
